LG Ductless AC Repair in West Palm Beach: The Short Version
Most LG service calls in WPB come down to four things: a communication fault between the indoor and outdoor units, a drain problem on a ceiling cassette, low refrigerant, or an outdoor unit that's running too hot. LG labels each of those with its own "CH" code, which makes our first ten minutes on site a lot faster than with brands that only blink a light.
We work on the LG lines you'll actually find in Palm Beach County homes and condos: standard wall-mount units, the Mega series, the ArtCool Mirror and ArtCool Gallery (the one that looks like a picture frame), four-way and one-way ceiling cassettes, and Multi F / Multi F MAX outdoor units running two to eight rooms. Nearly all of them use LG's DUAL Inverter compressor, which ramps its speed up and down instead of slamming on and off. Great for your FPL bill, but it means the inverter board and the wiring between the units carry more of the load than on an old single-speed system, and that shows up in the repairs we see.
If you've got a different brand in another room, our mini split repair West Palm Beach hub covers every make we service.
What Your LG Mini Split Code Means
An LG code tells you which part of the system tripped its own protection. It doesn't always tell you why. Here's what the common ones mean, straight from LG's own code list, plus what we usually find behind them in WPB homes:
- CH05 (also shown as CH53 or E0 on some models): the indoor and outdoor units have stopped talking. Behind it we find loose or corroded terminals at the outdoor unit, a nicked communication wire, or a board that took a hit during a storm.
- CH04 (may show as FL): drainage problem. On ceiling cassettes this usually means the condensate pump or float switch has quit, or the drain line is packed with algae.
- CH38 (F4 on some units): low refrigerant. The unit is seeing temperatures that point to a leak, not just "a little low." Refrigerant doesn't get used up.
- CH61 (P4, P6, P7, P8 or CH34 on some models): overheating. In cooling mode, the outdoor unit is too hot, almost always from blocked airflow or a dirty condenser coil. It won't clear itself; the unit has to be power-cycled after the cause is fixed.
- CH10 / CH67: fan trouble. CH10 points to the indoor fan, CH67 to the outdoor fan. A rattling or grinding outdoor unit in the weeks before CH67 usually means worn bearings. LG's inverter outdoor units generally use a DC fan motor rather than a capacitor-run one, so a cheap capacitor swap usually isn't the answer here.
- CH21: the outdoor inverter or compressor saw abnormal current and shut down to protect itself.
- CH54: reverse phase detection, which LG notes can follow a power outage or electrical work.
How to read the code on your LG
Units with a display show "CH" and the number, sometimes alternating. Units with a wired wall controller show it on the controller screen. Older wall units without a readout blink a status light in a counted pattern instead. If the panel is dark, make sure nobody switched the display light off from the remote before assuming the unit's dead. Write down exactly what you see, or take a 10-second video on your phone. Our WPB error code and blinking light guide walks through what to try before you call.
Why LG Units Break the Way They Do in West Palm Beach
WPB stacks three stresses on an LG at once: salt, humidity and shaky power during storm season.
Salt air and the GoldFin coating
LG ships many of its residential outdoor coils with a factory GoldFin anti-corrosion coating. It helps. What it doesn't do is protect the stuff around the coil: the screw terminals, the service valves, the copper flare nuts and the base pan. On condos along Flagler Drive and homes facing the Lake Worth Lagoon, those are the parts that go green and crusty first. Corroded terminals are a leading reason we see CH05 on units that are only a few years old. A fresh-water coil rinse every few months buys real time. For the longer version, read our guide to salt-air corrosion on Florida mini splits.
Humidity and LG ceiling cassettes
Ceiling cassettes are popular in newer WPB condos because they hide in a drop ceiling. They can't drain by gravity the way a wall unit can, so they rely on a small pump and a float switch. In a city where the evaporator coil pulls water out of the air nearly year-round, that pump runs constantly. A pan that stays wet also grows mold, and a musty smell from the cassette is often the first warning. When it fails, you get CH04, or worse, water stains spreading across the ceiling tile. If you're already seeing drips, our page on a mini split leaking water in West Palm Beach explains what to shut off first.
FPL outages, lightning and the inverter board
A DUAL Inverter system lives on its electronics. When FPL power flickers during an afternoon thunderstorm, or comes back after a long outage with a surge, the inverter board and the communication circuit take the hit. That's when CH05, CH21 and CH54 tend to show up for the first time. A whole-unit surge protector at the outdoor disconnect costs a fraction of an LG board.

Parts and refrigerant on LG systems
LG boards and fan motors are model-specific, so we match the part to the model number on your indoor and outdoor labels, not just the brand. Older LG systems run on R-410A; LG's newer residential line uses R-32. They aren't interchangeable, and topping off one with the other ruins the charge. Check the label before anyone adds anything. Our 2026 WPB price guide lists every repair category we quote.

LG's current residential warranty covers parts for 5 years and the compressor for 7 years from installation, and both can stretch to 10 years. The 10-year terms apply only when an LG-trained installer put the system in to LG's instructions and it was registered at lghvac.com within 60 days of startup. If nobody registered your unit, you're likely on the shorter terms.
A few things owners in WPB are surprised by:
- Labor isn't covered. LG supplies the warranty part; the service call, labor and refrigerant are on you.
- Surge and lightning damage is excluded. LG's warranty lists power surges, lightning and faulty power supply as exclusions, so a board fried during a storm usually isn't a warranty claim.
- Harsh environments are excluded too. LG names sea and salt water exposure among its exclusions, and it expects coils and drains to be maintained.
- Who works on it matters. Service by unqualified people can void coverage. Our techs are licensed and EPA 608 certified, and we write up model, serial, code and work done so you have it for any claim.
Older LG units may carry different terms, so pull your warranty card or the paperwork from the installer if you're not sure.
Repair or Replace Your LG Mini Split?
Repair it if the compressor is healthy and the unit is under about 10 years old. Boards, pumps, fans and leaks are all fixable on an LG at a fraction of a new system. Replacement starts to make sense when:
- the compressor has failed outside warranty and the outdoor unit is past 10–12 years in coastal air;
- the outdoor coil is corroded through in more than one spot, which turns leak repair into a cycle;
- it's an older R-410A system with repeat leaks and a second major part is starting to go.
On a Multi F system, one failed indoor head doesn't mean replacing everything; we can usually fix that one zone and leave the rest alone. You get both numbers and you decide.

LG Mini Split Repair West Palm Beach FAQs
CH05 means the indoor and outdoor units have lost communication. In West Palm Beach the cause is usually a corroded or loose terminal at the outdoor unit, a damaged communication wire, or a board hit by a power surge. Resetting the breaker once is fine, but if CH05 returns, a tech needs to test the wiring and boards before replacing anything.
Yes, CH38 points to low refrigerant, and low refrigerant almost always means a leak somewhere in the system. Common spots on LG units near the coast are flare connections, service valves and corroded coil tubes. Recharging without finding the leak just buys a few weeks. Expect $200 to $600 for leak repair and recharge.
CH04 is LG's drainage fault, and on a ceiling cassette it usually means the condensate pump or float switch failed or the drain line is clogged with algae. WPB's humidity keeps those pumps running almost nonstop. Shut the unit off to stop ceiling damage, then have the pump and float tested. Pump replacement typically runs $180 to $350.
LG covers the cost of a defective part during the warranty period, but not labor, refrigerant or the service call. Current residential terms are 5 years parts and 7 years compressor, or 10 years each if an LG-trained installer registered the unit within 60 days. Storm surge and lightning damage is excluded.
Yes. An ArtCool Mirror or Gallery uses the same refrigerant circuit, boards and outdoor units as other LG wall systems; only the front panel and cabinet differ. The tech needs EPA 608 certification for refrigerant work and the right LG part numbers. We service ArtCool units across West Palm Beach with the same pricing as standard LG models.
Check the nameplate label on the outdoor unit; it lists the refrigerant type and factory charge. Older LG systems use R-410A, while LG's newer residential models use R-32. The two can't be mixed, so a tech must confirm the label before adding refrigerant. We carry both and quote the job after checking.
Plan on roughly 10 to 15 years for an LG system in WPB, with coastal outdoor units at the lower end. Units within a few blocks of the Intracoastal see faster terminal and coil corrosion. Rinsing the outdoor coil, cleaning the drain every few months and adding surge protection are the three habits that add years.
