- Turn the unit off at the remote first. Don't just set the temperature higher — press the power button until the display goes dark and the unit shuts down completely.
- Switch off the circuit breaker. Find the breaker labeled "AC," "Mini Split," or "HVAC" in your panel and turn it off. Water and electricity near the same unit is not a combination to risk.
- Place towels under the indoor head unit. Water drips along the mounting bracket and can track sideways — place towels in a wide area, not just directly below the unit.
- Check the ceiling directly above (if unit is attic-mounted). Water staining on a ceiling below an attic air handler means water has been pooling for hours and is tracking inside the wall cavity. This is more serious than a standard floor drip and needs same-day attention.
