Daikin Ductless AC Repair in WPB: Pull the Code Before You Reset

Daikin hides its fault codes inside the wireless remote, and finding the code first can save you a wasted service visit. A blinking operation lamp on the indoor unit only tells you something's wrong. The remote tells you what. On most Daikin wireless remotes, it works like this:

  1. Point the remote at the indoor unit.
  2. Hold the Cancel button for about 5 seconds, until "00" flashes in the temperature display and the unit beeps.
  3. Press Cancel again, one tap at a time. The display steps through codes, with a short beep on each one that doesn't match.
  4. Stop when you hear a long, steady beep. The code on screen at that moment is your fault.
  5. Write it down, then press nothing for 30 seconds and the remote returns to normal.

Some older and newer remotes use a different button sequence, so if Cancel does nothing, read us the remote's model number from the battery cover. Then call before you start flipping the breaker. Repeated resets on a U2 or L5 can turn a $300 problem into a board.

Daikin Error Codes in West Palm Beach, Grouped by Cause

Most Daikin codes we pull in WPB fall into five groups: power, airflow, refrigerant, water and sensors. Here's how they sort out, and what each usually means in a city with FPL storm outages and nine months of sticky weather.

Power and electronics: U2, U4, L5

U2 is a power supply fault: the unit saw low voltage, a voltage dip or an instant power loss. It's common after a lightning storm flickers the lights along Okeechobee Boulevard. U4 means the indoor and outdoor units have stopped talking, usually from a damaged board or a loose, corroded wire at the outdoor terminal. L5 is an instant overcurrent at the inverter compressor, which can be the board, a stuck valve or the compressor itself. Most Daikin inverter systems don't run the compressor on a capacitor the way an old central AC condenser does, so a buzzing outdoor unit on a Daikin usually points to the fan motor or the board, not a $20 part. If your Daikin is completely dead with no code at all, start with our won't turn on checklist.

Airflow and ice: A5, A6, E7

A5 in cooling mode is freeze-up protection: the indoor coil got cold enough to ice. Dirty filters and a matted coil cause most of these here. A6 is the indoor fan motor locked or overloaded. E7 is the same fault on the outdoor fan, and a condenser fan that's been breathing salt air from the Lake Worth Lagoon for eight years is a prime candidate.

Refrigerant: U0, F3

U0 is Daikin's low refrigerant warning. Something is leaking, often a flare nut at the outdoor service valves. F3 flags a discharge pipe running too hot, which can come from low charge, a clogged line or a bad thermistor.

Water: A3

A3 means the drain isn't keeping up. It shows on Daikin units with a drain pump or float, mostly cassettes and ducted models. In WPB the cause is almost always a gel of algae in the condensate pan or line, and that standing water is also what gives a room a musty smell before the code ever shows. Our drain line cleaning service clears it without pulling the unit down.

Sensors: C4, C9

C4 is the indoor coil (liquid pipe) thermistor and C9 is the return air thermistor. Both are inexpensive parts. Don't let anyone quote a full board for a sensor code without testing the sensor first.

Repairing a Daikin That Runs on R-32

Many newer Daikin mini splits, including the Aurora line, use R-32 instead of R-410A, and that changes how the repair is done. Daikin was one of the first big manufacturers to push R-32 into residential ductless equipment, so a lot of the Daikins installed around West Palm Beach in recent years carry it.

Three things are different on an R-32 Daikin:

Either way, we find and fix the leak before adding a single ounce. Recharging a leaking Daikin and leaving is how you end up paying twice before Labor Day.

Daikin Mini Split Repair Cost in West Palm Beach

Most Daikin repairs in WPB land between $150 and $700, and you'll know the number before we start. The diagnostic fee comes off the bill when you approve the work.

Repair (common Daikin code)CostTime
Diagnostic / service call, code pulled and tested$75–$150 (credited)30 min
Drain line cleaning (A3)$85–$18045–60 min
Float switch replacement (A3, cassettes)$120–$22045 min
Coil cleaning (A5 freeze-ups)$150–$30060–90 min
Refrigerant leak repair + recharge, R-410A (U0)$200–$6002–3 hrs
Fan motor, indoor or outdoor (A6, E7)$300–$6001–2 hrs
Control or inverter board (U4, L5)$400–$7002–4 hrs
Compressor replacement$800–$1,8004–6 hrs

R-32 leak repairs follow the same steps and we quote them on site once the leak is found. We'll also tell you when a part should be covered by Daikin, so you're only paying labor.

Daikin's Warranty Hinges on a 60-Day Registration

Daikin's longest parts coverage on residential ductless systems, 12 years on many single-zone models, depends on the system being registered online within 60 days of installation. Systems that weren't registered in time fall back to shorter base terms, and rental or commercial installs get less coverage than an owner-occupied home.

A few points that trip up WPB owners:

Rental property owner? If the Daikin is in a unit you lease out, ask us to check the coverage terms first. Coverage on rentals is shorter, and we'd rather tell you that before the repair than after.

The Daikin Lines We See Around West Palm Beach

We work on every residential Daikin ductless family installed in Palm Beach County. Model numbers starting with FTX or FTXS are heat pump wall units; FTK is cooling only. Outdoor units start with RX, RXS or RK, and an MXS outdoor unit runs more than one room.

Is Your Daikin Worth Repairing?

A Daikin under 10 years old is almost always worth fixing, and a sensor, fan or drain repair is worth doing at any age. The harder call is a dead compressor or a large R-410A leak on a unit past 12 years. At that point, salt pitting on the outdoor coil fins tells the real story. If the fins flake when you touch them, the coil is close to failing too, and that money is better put toward a new R-32 system.

Daikin also sends a clear warning before many big failures. Repeat A5 freeze-ups, a U0 that keeps coming back, or an E7 that clears after a reset and returns a week later all mean a part is on its way out. Catching them in April beats an emergency call in the August Florida heat. Daikin Mini Split Repair West Palm Beach FAQs

Hold the Cancel button for about five seconds until "00" flashes, then tap Cancel repeatedly. Each wrong code gets a short beep. When you hear a long, steady beep, the code showing is the fault. Write it down before calling. If Cancel does nothing, your remote uses a different sequence and we'll walk you through it on the phone.

Usually, yes. U0 is Daikin's low refrigerant warning, and refrigerant doesn't get used up, so low charge means a leak somewhere. A bad sensor or blocked line can trigger it now and then. We confirm with gauges and leak detection before recharging, because topping off without fixing the leak just brings U0 back.

In cooling season, A5 is freeze-up protection: the indoor coil got so cold that ice started forming. In West Palm Beach that's mostly clogged filters, a dirty coil or a weak indoor fan. Clean the filters and run fan-only for an hour. If A5 returns within a day or two, the refrigerant charge or the coil sensor needs testing.

Daikin still provides a base parts warranty on unregistered systems, but it's shorter than the extended coverage you get with online registration within 60 days of install. Labor isn't covered either way. Send us the serial number from the outdoor unit and we'll check where yours stands before buying any part.

Only one with A2L-rated tools and training. R-32 is mildly flammable, so recovery machines, leak detectors and procedures have to be rated for it. Using R-410A gear or cylinders can contaminate the charge. Our techs carry R-32 equipment and are EPA 608 certified.

Not necessarily. U2 means the unit saw a voltage problem, such as a dip, low voltage or a brief outage, which happens a lot when FPL service flickers during storms. Leave the breaker off ten minutes, then restore power once. If U2 keeps returning, the board's power circuit or your home's supply needs testing.
